Out on a limb

If you like your holidays to be really active, then Rarotonga has something to offer every taste. Which, given the island's compact size is quite startling because it offers so much.

From a mountainous interior with the lush tropical bush, through to rivers and valleys, the unique and diverse terrain offers a repertoire of adventure tours often not expected from an island roughly 37 kms in circumference. And don't be fooled here. There are certainly some parts which the Cook Island government strongly advises you do not go unless accompanied by an experienced tour guide, owing to unstable conditions. But generally, most are easily accessible and navigable although it needs to be said those tours led by guides are tremendously educational and fun.

For those with a less ambitious bent, there are also plenty of tours available that don't tax the body overly much - some even from the comfort of an airconditioned coach.

If you like horse riding, then there is a trek available that takes in both the lagoon and Wigmore's Waterfalls.
